Short lesson on chapter 17 this week as we all prepare to wrap up the season of Advent and celebrate 12 days of Christmas. We will not have a study next Sunday the 27th, but we'll be back the first Sunday in January. Merry Christmas friends.

Have you ever been in the middle of a full blown riot? The closest I ever came was attending a profession wrestling event in high school where the drunk fans were not pleased when a very popular wrestler did not show up. They got even more angry when the show was canceled. Chairs were thrown toward the ring and many were arrested. We made a quick retreat.
I have seen footage of the WTO protests that took place in Seattle in 2001 that looks like a riot to me. Even still, I wonder if we understand just how frightening being caught in a real riot must be. We read this in Acts over and over, but do we ever pause to think about just how frightening this must have been?
Jason and some other Christians were the brunt of the mobs anger here in Chapter 17. Even though they were not beaten and thrown in jail last Paul and Silas were last week, what happens is certainly not a pleasant experience. Jealous jews formed a mob and went after these Christians who were “turning the world upside down.” They claimed to know another king - King Jesus.Jesus is King - Caesar is not.In this day, this proclamation was not just bold - it was dangerous. The faithful knew this and still they made Him know - knowing full well the wrath of these mobs would eventually descend on their house.
As we celebrate the birth of our Savior this week, we honor so much more than a baby born in a manger, but a God who chooses us, calls us, and saves us. May we reflect and remember the long line of revolutionaries who followed and served Him just as we do, and from whom we descend.
