In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. John 14:2 (NIV)
Home. It's your place, your sanctuary. Recently, Justin and I took Jaxson to Arkansas to celebrate his first birthday with family. We had a great time and was glad to be able to visit them. But when we were flying back into Sea-Tac I couldn't help but be excited. I saw familiar landmarks...the Space Needle, Puget Sound, I-5....I was home! I could sleep in my own bed, see my friends, and most importantly get back to my emails and google reader!
In John 14:2 Jesus is talking to us about our Father's home. Of course this represents heaven. And just because this house has many rooms, doesn't mean they are super tiny, just that there is a place for each one of us. A place for us to call home.
But wait!!! My bed won't be up in Heaven. Or my flat screen tv. Or will my Nintendo Wii...how will this be my "home"?
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV)
Possessions really mean nothing for us. When we were born, we didn't bring anything with us. When we die, we can't take anything with us. So, those possession don't define our home, home is a place for us to belong.
So, as I walked through the front door last Saturday, grateful to be home; I realized that Jesus prepared a even better place for me, Heaven.
